斐济温斯顿飓风

2月19日，飓风温斯顿袭击了斐济，造成至少28人遇难，并摧毁数百座房屋。

5级风暴（萨菲尔-辛普森飓风等级中最强烈的风暴）是十几年来影响斐济最为严重的一次风暴，同时也是南半球历史上最为强烈的风暴之一。

温斯顿于世界标准时间6点30分（当地时间18点30分）在维提岛北部登陆，维提岛是斐济群岛的主要岛屿。飓风登陆后继续向西移动，此次大风暴差一点就袭击了首都苏瓦。

政府宣布进入紧急状态，考虑到居民安全，政府实施了36小时宵禁令。

据报道，风暴摧毁了整片村落，很多家园被毁。数以千计的民众目前正被安置在数百个疏散中心，直到他们可以重返家园为止。

温斯顿还破坏了电力设施，80%的人口无法使用电力设施，群岛内逾300岛屿中断了通讯。由于受到通讯限制，无法估计偏远岛屿受损的程度。可以确信，一些岛屿可能遭受了比主要岛屿更为严重的毁坏。有报道称，较大岛屿之一科罗岛可能遭受了"毁灭性"破坏。

修理和恢复工作已于2月22日开始，救援人员正在首先恢复通讯设施，并向飓风灾区提供干净的食物和水。
