Flood in Korea (Republic Of)

The July flooding in the Republic of Korea was caused by intense monsoon rainfall, resulting in widespread flooding, landslides, road disruption, and evacuations across several regions.

The central Chungcheong region was among the worst affected, with Daejeon and Cheongju receiving more than 220 mm of rainfall during the peak event. Daejeon experienced urban flooding, flooded roads, and infrastructure disruption, while Cheongju reported flooding, including impacts from an embankment collapse in the Gadeok district, leading to evacuations.

Severe impacts were also reported in North Gyeongsang Province, including Mungyeong and Gimcheon, where overflowing rivers affected farmland, roads, and communities. Additional flooding occurred in Daegu, South Chungcheong Province, and parts of the Seoul metropolitan area, with authorities conducting evacuations, damage assessments, and recovery operations.
